Inside the Seamless Workflow of the PPG LINQ™ Ecosystem
June 25th, 2026
In 2026, the paint booth doesn’t look the way it used to. Gone are the days of spray-out cards stacked amongst themselves, the guesswork with reducers, the cluttered mixing rooms anchored by dusty PCs. The new shop hums with quiet precision. Digital color tools talk to each other, spectrophotometers connect wirelessly, and painters move confidently through their day without second-guessing every match or mix.
At the center of this evolution is the PPG LINQ™ Digital Ecosystem, a connected suite of technologies working in harmony. It’s not just about improving one piece of the puzzle. It’s about enhancing the entire experience from start to finish.
It all begins where the work does: at the vehicle. The technician lifts a compact spectrophotometer, the PPG DigiMatch™. Within 30 seconds the device captures precise color and texture data from any panel, even curved or shadowed surfaces. With it’s intuitive and color accuracy, it sets the tone for everything that comes next.
The moment that scan is complete, the workflow transitions via USB or Wi-Fi to PPG LINQ™ Color, a cloud-based platform that retrieves the closest formulas from a massive global database. There’s no lag or outdated software to contend with. Just a secure, cloud-connected interface that can be accessed from a tablet, a phone, or a laptop. The scan becomes a match in real time, and the formula is ready for review.
But before a single drop is poured, there’s a chance to preview the results digitally using PPG VisualizID™. This built in program renders 3D representations of the selected formula, complete with edge and blend views. Painters can rotate panels, simulate lighting conditions, and compare subtle variants without spraying a single panel. It’s the virtual spray-out that saves both time and material, and it builds trust in the decision before anything hits the scale. VisualizID is compatible with premium paint systems that are compatible for both collision and commercial transport refinishing. These solutions include Envirobase® High Performance, Deltron® NXT, and Delfleet® Evolution.
Back in the mixing room, the workflow continues. The once-cluttered workstations are now lean and wireless, anchored by a compact smart device known as the PPG MagicBox™. This small piece of tech silently monitors the environment, capturing humidity, temperature, and pressure data, all while linking directly to connected USB scales. It clears the desk of wires, replaces the need for a dedicated PC, and becomes the central hub for mixing intelligence.
That intelligence comes to life with PPG MagicMix™, software that interprets those environmental conditions and recommends the ideal hardener, reducer, and mix ratio for the job at hand. Whether it’s a small bumper blend or a full panel repair, MagicMix adapts in real time, helping even novice painters achieve “right the first time” results. It removes the friction of guesswork, reduces the risk of rework, and builds consistency across the booth.
With the formula confirmed, the shop turns to PPG MoonWalk®, an automated paint dispensing system that blends science with efficiency. Instead of pouring and weighing by hand, the technician simply scans the job and lets MoonWalk do the rest. And with MoonWalk, shops save more with its intuitive design, Envirobase High Performance bottles are inversely suspended verifying the shop uses up to 99% of all the product. With it’s built in scale, the mixes are exact, down to 0.01 of a gram. These benefits virtually eliminate product waste. MoonWalk is fully integrated with the LINQ ecosystem, allowing everything from scan to mix be synced and tracked.
To finish, the mix transfers to the PPG Mix’n’Shake™, the latest innovation from PPG Industries and SEM. This final touch of automation takes the time out of final paint preparation. Its one-touch programs for primers, basecoats, and clears ensure a perfectly blended mix every time, eliminating potential for poor adhesion, and offering the painter more hands-on time. With a fully blended solution in under 90 seconds and LINQ reporting, Mix’n’Shake is the final touch in this streamlined workflow.
In this connected environment, the gains are hard to ignore. Jobs move faster. Errors disappear. Painters are more confident. Customers are more satisfied. And the shop becomes more profitable as the entire process flows without interruption.
This digital ecosystem is built for shops, where every device, every sensor, and every software touchpoint speaks the same language. It’s the difference between chasing perfection and producing it every single day.
At ColorVision, we’ve partnered closely with PPG to help bring this vision to life. Whether you’re adding your first digital tool or ready to implement the full LINQ ecosystem, our team is here to help you get there with setup, training, and ongoing support designed to grow alongside your shop.
